Hall restoration project

Following the 2019 / 2020 bushfires the Bushfire Disaster Relief Fund Grant program was established to assist the efforts of local communities by enabling them to undertake projects to support ongoing and unmet community, social wellbeing, environment recovery & future resilience needs.
The Towong Soldiers Memorial Hall Committee was a successful grant applicant, receiving several major grants to support the creation of a place of refuge that could also be a community social hub.

The 'Our Place' project aimed to revitalise the hall through upgrading it and creating a functional welcoming space for all. With new furniture, cutlery, crockery, appliances and a dedicated outdoor space the hall will be able to host a wide variety of community events.
If disaster should ever strike again the hall has been upgraded to serve as a central hub. Somewhere residents can gather, cook a meals, get a hot shower, and access crucial information and support.

Today, it's a place to gather, celebrate, socialise and to bring the community back together.

The Committee is grateful to the following groups & organisations that supported the application:

Upper Murray Innovation Foundation
Regional Development Victoria Bushfire Recovery Fund

Bushfire Recovery Victoria - Community Recovery and Resilience Grant Program
Border Trust Grant - 'Fit Out'

Our community has always been resilient and upgrades to the hall will ensure it is a well used asset in our community for years to come.
The new facilities will enhance our lives and importantly, help us to support ourselves in the face of future adversity.

Internal facelift

Significant internal upgrades, such as re-wiring, re-plumbing, painting, insulating etc will ensure the longevity and frequent use.
Kitchen upgrade

The new 'commercial grade' fully equipped kitchen is functional and has been designed to meet the needs of a broad range of event catering requirements.

Additionally, the hall is equipped with solar power with storage batteries, a new 110,000lt water tank, a kw back up generator, satellite internet connection and an expansive outdoor deck at the rear of the hall.
